چکیده

Since one of us (J.N.C.) in 1953 recorded the results of electrophoresis on paper of the proteins of the cerebrospinal fluid and cerebral cyst fluids a number of other supporting media have been employed for this purpose. Some, such as starch, are valuable because of a higher resolving power and a greater ability to separate many of the protein components. The use of the polyacrylamide disc electrophoretic technique of Ornstein and Davis (1962) has been introduced recently and it offered a fresh opportunity to study cerebrospinal fluid and brain proteins by a method which appeared to possess certain advantages over other techniques. This paper records such a study and the results are compared with the findings of other workers using different techniques as well as that of Cunningham (1964) who examined the cerebrospinal fluid with the same method. The method has also been employed for the detection of enzymes, especially lactate dehydrogenase, and of caeruloplasmin.

Analysis of "native" Cerebrospinal Fluid by the Polyacrylamide Disc Electrophoresis Technique.

The polyacrylamide disc electrophoresis technique has been applied to the fractionation of ;native' cerebrospinal fluid. Evidence is presented to show that there is an alteration in the protein profile if the fluid is subjected to a concentration stage. A minimum of 22 distinct protein zones have been detected in fluids from patients without structural changes in the nervous system. The method ...

An improved polyacrylamide gel electrophoretic method for demonstration of oligoclonal bands of immunoglobulin G in cerebrospinal fluid.

A two-step procedure is described in which analytical disc gel electrophoresis in polyacrylamide is used to demonstrate oligoclonal bands of immunoglobulin G in cerebrospinal fluid. The principal advantage of the procedure is that unconcentrated samples of cerebrospinal fluid as small as 200 fiL can be assayed. The results obtained in samples from 100 patients with various neurologic diseases s...

Two-dimensional gel electrophoresis of cerebrospinal fluid proteins.

Two-dimensional electrophoresis, with isoelectric focusing in the first dimension and sodium dodecyl sulfate/polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis in the second, has been adapted for the high-resolution analysis of cerebrospinal fluid proteins. Proteins were detected with a new, highly sensitive silver stain that made visible more than 300 polypeptides from 60 microL of spinal fluid, in highly rep...

Two–Dimensional Gel Electrophoresis of Ceolomic Fluid of Eisenia foetida Earthworm

Earthworms possess antioxidant, antibacterial, antitumor, and hemolytic properties. To recognize the molecules responsible for various biological activities of earthworm’s coelomic fluid, a detailed knowledge about its protein contents is required. The aim of this study was to characterize the proteins present within the coelomic fluid of Eisenia foetida earthworm. Polyacrylamide-gel-elec...

High resolution two-dimensional polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis of cerebrospinal fluid in patients with neurological diseases.

The protein pattern of cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) of 334 patients with various neurological and systemic diseases was investigated by high resolution two-dimensional electrophoresis (2-DE). 2-DE gels of normal CSF contain proteins which are not detectable in 2-DE gels of serum. Disturbances of the blood-brain or blood-CSF barrier, and degenerative diseases of the brain and malignant diseases pro...
